HPA Training LLN Procedure

Purpose

The purpose of this procedure is for HPA Training to determine whether a prospective student has the competency skills regarding language literacy and numeracy prior to commencement of training and to ensure if necessary training and assessment delivery is adapted to meet individual needs. This procedure will ensure that HPA Training will be compliant with regard to standards for Registered Training Organisations.

Scope

This procedure applies to all prospective students.

Definitions

Language involved the use of words in a structured and conventional way, in either written or spoken form, to communicate meaning.

Literacy is the ability to use and adjust language effectively, in a social context, to achieve specific purposes. Literacy involves the application of skills such as the ability to explain, debate, retrieve information, explore issues, entertain, create and express opinions.

Numeracy involves the practical application of mathematical skills to use and critically evaluate information in numerical, spatial or graphical form. Numeracy may also involve literacy, for example when extracting mathematical information from written text.

Procedure

All prospective students who apply to undertake a course with HPA Training are required to complete a pretesting interview and/or questionnaire.

As part of the pre-training review a language literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills assessment will be conducted. Students will be fully informed before the assessment commences as to the purpose of the assessment.

There are two assessment tools available for use and the outcome of the first assessment will determine whether the necessity of the second is required for further determination.

The range of support options available include:
